Eco Innovation – headache or brainwave?

By Edd Brunner - Last updated: Friday, August 27, 2010

Eco Innovation is a phrase that is increasingly dominant in the world of product development and with good reason. Product developers need to take note as ‘eco innovation’ will be required for a whole range of products going forwards.

Why is this happening now?   The obvious reason is that the law is changing to enforce the improvements with the EU employing the “producer pays” principle, for example.  But additionally there is growing consumer pressure for companies to improve their ‘green’ credentials and deliver products to the market place with a lower C-footprint –  some consumers are  motivated by environmental concerns and many are motivated by the fact that energy efficient products will cost less to run.

It would be quite easy for designers and engineers to see this as a headache… yet another factor consider in the design….yet more legislation to comply with….

Our eco-innovation processes help product developers leapfrog the competition with innovative new products that satisfy growing eco requirements

However, we see this as an opportunity to leapfrog the competition with an innovative product that not only complies with these new requirements, but also adds significant benefits to the consumer, and may even cost the producer less to make. Cue our friendly frog Kevin!

For the last 50 years we have been helping our clients develop innovative products that deliver value to the producer and the end-user.   Over the last few years we have increasingly seen the demand for an ‘eco innovation’ approach so we have modified our product development approach to incorporate this.

We call this new approach ‘Leapfrogging’, and not just because Kevin the frog is green. Using this process we can help you develop products that not only meet all the eco legislation, but push your product way ahead of the competitions.

We are at IFA 2010 (Hall 11.1, Booth 110) and are holding eco innovation workshops where you can find out more about this process and the benefits it can bring you. We’ll be running this workshops at the following times:

  • Friday 3rd September 2010  11h00 -12h30 or 15h00 – 16h30
  • Monday 6th September 11h00 -12h30 or 15h00 – 16h30
  • or by private appointment.
